Barrels Wine and Beer is a nice way to end your day if you’re planning to enjoy Border Field State Park and the Tijuana Estuary Visitor’s Center.
It’s located along the main Imperial Beach drag, Seacoast Drive. Over the coming months, I hope to hit all the main restaurants along here.
Barrels used to be a bar with only tiny appetizers. A year ago, several Imperial Beach locals, some of whom went to high school together, opened the upstairs as a craft beer, wine and restaurant. On Father’s Day, they additionally opened the downstairs with a patio that overlooks Seacoast Drive.
They’ve got two cooks, including Charles Conrad who went to culinary school in Las Vegas and then came back to his hometown of IB to work at Barrels.
Their wines are around $7-10 per glass and their menu is quintessential American Cuisine. I liked the Pulled Pork Sliders, but the Fish & Chips, Ny.Y. Strip Salad, Bacon Jalapeño Flatbread and the Antipasta Plate are excellent as well. There’s also several different kinds of burgers and Mac N Cheese too.
