Big Kahuna’s Imperial Beach

Big Kahuna's Imperial Beach

From Honolulu to Imperial Beach, the Big Kahuna’s is where you go when you want to sit down in a relaxed environment, catch the game or just catch a bite before going out to surf near the IB pier.

I really enjoyed the restaurant for its rich food and fun choices. For appetizers, deep-fried coconut shrimp with Sweet Chili Sauce started off my Friday evening. (The Tiki tenders came in a close second.)

We could also have gone for the Saimin: Hawaii’s noodle soup topped with green onions and…. wait for it…. spam. When deciding on an entree, I just loved their picture menu. Usually the pictures don’t look all that great, but I had to post this time because look how scrumptious:

We decided on the Kalua Pork & Cabbage Hawaiian Plate:

Then also the Kalbi Beef:

They also offered an array of burgers, from the teriyaki to the volcano. They had sandwiches like the Paniolo BBQ Beef Brisket. I’m telling you — hefty comfort food. Then there were the rice bowls, like spicy chicken.

If you usually like to eat on the lighter side, don’t be discouraged. The portion sizes are manageable — not the over-sized plates you might expect. For someone like me who doesn’t care of the all-you-can-eat buffets, this is perfect.

If you come here for breakfast, try the “Beach Boy” (Fried spam and eggs with steamed rice) or the Loco Moco (ground beef, onions, brown gravy over rice, 2 eggs on top of macaroni salad). No matter what, you’ll want to eat everything with their signature Hawaiian Hot Sauce:
