Potlucks & BBQ’s
This is a very hearty bean dish! Actually can be served as a side dish or a meal with a side salad. This is perfect for parties, Barbecues and potlucks.
This recipe is for a slow cooker.
- 2 28oz Cans of baked beans, any variety but I prefer the vegetarian kind because the recipe calls for meat
- 1 lb bacon, chopped into bite size pieces
- 1lb ground beef
- 1/2 an onion chopped
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar or regular vinegar
- 1 tsp of liquid smoke
- Can add hot sauce, to taste to give it a kick
In a large frying pan, saute the bacon until crispy and brown, with a slotted spoon, remove the bacon pieces onto a plate and drain off bacon fat, leaving 2Tbsp of fat.
Saute the onions for about 2 minutes, then add the beef and cook until browned.
Add bacon, onions and beef, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, liquid smoke and hot sauce if desired, to slow cooker.
Stir until well combined and cook on high for 4-5 hours.
Quick Tip: If you like a more tangy baked bean add another tablespoon of vinegar. If you like a sweeter baked bean, add one or two more Tbsp of brown sugar!
