Restaurant Review: Resaurant.com gave The Waterfront Grill a Certificate of Recgonition in 2012 as a Top Rated Restaurant for outstanding food, service and overall experience. If you don’t know about this place, that’s because the restaurant hasn’t been around very long. National City is up-and-coming as the “other” San Diego and this little gem is a great place to eat.
I went right for their Seared Sesame Ahi salad, which included seared ahi, organic spring mix, mandarin oranges, red onion, bell peppers and a signature Asian dressing. We sat overlooking the slips and enjoyed the crisp atmosphere. This is comfort food for those who want to spend a little time overlooking the water, but would rather steer clear of large crowds.
Appetizers “first bites” are Pier 32 Seasoned Calamari, Angus Beef Sliders, Waterfront Grill Buffalo Wings and Jumbo Shrimp and Avocado cocktail. They’ve also got clam chowder and a kids menu.
I especially liked their Signature Fare: a half pound angus burger, blackened fresh fish sandwish, mesquite smoke pulled pork and carnitas plates. You see what I’m saying about “comfort food”.
They also have a bevy of beers & wines displayed in a metallic rack against the wall and daily specials.
It’s simple. It’s breezy. Everything you want in San Diego, but usually there are fewer crowds here, so you get it all to yourself. Shsh! Just don’t tell anyone!
